How can civic initiatives, public institutions, researchers, and local organisations work together to transform urban food systems?

On 15 June 2026, the University of Turin hosted the third and final Deliberative Panel (DP3) of the CO-SUSTAIN Turin case study, bringing together actors from across the city’s food solidarity ecosystem. Building on the results of the previous deliberative panels, participants collectively reflected on the future of food solidarity, identified key leverage points for systemic change, and co-developed a first Theory of Change for a more inclusive and resilient food system.

Throughout the day, participants worked with systems thinking tools, including Causal Loop Diagrams, collaborative mapping, and role-play exercises, to move beyond emergency food provision and explore long-term pathways towards food justice, stronger collaboration, and participatory governance. Discussions highlighted the importance of stable spaces for co-design, better integration of data and knowledge, and sustained investment in community-based initiatives.
