On May 21st, members of the University of Granada met with representatives of the Alpujarra Energy Community (AEC) and other stakeholders representing local associations, public entities, and businesses in the framework of the third and final deliberation panel of the CO-SUSTAIN case study  in Órgiva. The objective of this meeting was to come together and work towards “A cohesive Alpujarra that drives a just ecological transition through local collaboration.”

This panel marked the final stage of a deliberative process that began in January 2026 and brought together stakeholders involved in the AEC over the course of three deliberative panels. During this final session, the University of Granada team presented and validated the collective work developed throughout the process. The outcome was a shared roadmap identifying concrete actions, the resources required to implement them, and the expected results.

This final panel also helped translate the outcomes of the previous deliberations into a practical strategy for action. One of its main conclusions was that the success of a citizen-led energy community depends on far more than access to subsidies or the installation of photovoltaic panels. While technological and financial resources are important, long-term success ultimately relies on the community’s capacity to organise, collaborate and govern itself effectively. Through this process, the AEC developed a shared diagnosis of its organisational strengths and territorial context, together with a set of strategic actions to support its long-term consolidation.

Beyond the specific outcomes, one of the main achievements of the deliberative process was bringing together stakeholders from across the Alpujarra region and to collectively reflect on their territory and its future. Equally important was the network of relationships and collaboration that emerged through the process.
